Combimate COM1 is a compact scale reducer that is fitted on the cold mains supply and doses a small, controlled amount of Combiphos – a food-grade polyphosphate – into the water. The phosphate keeps hardness minerals in suspension so they do not form scale in boiler heat exchangers, cylinders, kettles and showers, and coats pipework against soft-water corrosion. It needs no power and no drain, and includes a check valve.
The unit is about the size of a teapot (151 × 165 × 161 mm) and fits horizontal or vertical 15 mm pipework with compression fittings; mount it accessible and at least 450 mm from a boiler or other heat source, preferably with an isolating valve upstream. Maximum static pressure is 6.5 bar. Note that it does not soften water and its effect falls in water heated above about 60 °C; a 400 g charge protects one appliance, 800 g the whole system, refilled annually.
