This system from Soft Water Care brings genuine ion-exchange softening to a single shower. Water from the shower outlet runs first through an activated carbon fibre (ACF) filter that reduces chlorine, then through a resin tank of about 48 cm height that swaps calcium and magnesium for sodium. It stands beside the bath or on the shower floor and connects with the hoses supplied.
It suits renters and flats because nothing is cut or plumbed in: fit it between the shower outlet and a handheld shower head (a fixed head has to be swapped for a handheld). Leave room of roughly 38 cm width next to the shower. The resin is recharged with salt water using the supplied pump – about monthly for one person – and the ACF filter is replaced every 3–9 months depending on household size. Check the water pressure and the hose thread of your shower before ordering; the brand does not publish pressure limits.
